MATH HOMEWORK- WEEK OF 9/19/16-
STUDENTS HAVE POLYGON RIDDLES DUE WEDNESDAY 9/21.
THEY ARE ALSO EXPECTED TO PLAY 'POLYGON PAIR-UP' (WHICH CAME HOME MONDAY) AT LEAST 3 TIMES THIS WEEK. THERE ARE DIRECTIONS ATTACHED WITH OPTIONAL CHALLENGE LEVELS. PLEASE FILL OUT THE LOG ON THE BACK OF DIRECTION PAGE.
**Math Homework will be a balance between worksheets, project work, games, and computer practice. Please look in your child’s assignment book to see what homework they have each night. Research tells us that the goal of homework is to reinforce previously learned concepts. Weatherbee wants to provide enough practice and extension to move information from short to long term memory. Knowing this, we are adjusting our homework policies to reflect the best research based practices.
Please make sure your child is completing the homework as best they can on their own. If it takes them longer than 10-15 minutes, please have them stop and write a quick note saying they need help. I will work with them the next day to review.
Curriculum
We will use the Everyday Math program this year. Look for the family letter to come home at the beginning of a unit to help you and your child understand what will be taught in the upcoming unit. Our units of study this year are geometry, organizing data, multiplication/division, algebra, decimals, estimation and computation of big numbers, fractions, probability, perimeter and area, and percents.
Each math class will begin with math warm-ups to review and strengthen mathematical understanding and will continue into a 15-20 minute mini-lesson of new content. After the mini-lesson, students will work independently at their own pace of understanding to fill out a log which will consist of priority work and a variety of choice activities such as real life math, math drills, complex reasoning, computer games, partner games, STEM challenges and projects. During this time Mrs. Felice will pull up small guided groups for optimal differentiation.
